Cantors Listed as Milestone in Rodin’s Legacy

The contributions of the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation in preserving and celebrating the distinguished works of Auguste Rodin are now featured in the new chronological display at the Musée Rodin in Paris.

The display highlights major milestones in the life and legacy of Rodin, including when B. Gerald Cantor began amassing his private collection. It also lists some of the museums to which he donated many Rodin works, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Stanford University.

The Cantor Foundation has a longstanding relationship with the Musée Rodin which continues today.  Bernie formed a friendship with the then museum director, Cécile Goldscheider, with whom he shared expertise and generosity to help the Musée reach its full potential. In 2015, the Cantor Foundation’s contributions to Rodin’s legacy were highlighted with the naming of the main gallery at the newly renovated Musée being named “Hall Iris et B. Gerald Cantor,” a rare honor for a French museum.

Iris Cantor was also recognized by French President François Hollande for her contribution towards the preservation and celebration of Rodin’s legacy on March 20, 2017, when she was bestowed an Officer in the French Legion d’Honneur.
